You Can Improve Your Health and Performance in 2023!

Scerbo Physical Therapy > Blog > You Can Improve Your Health and Performance in 2023!
By Dr. Frank J. Scerbo, PT, DPT //Resolving to be healthier and fitter in 2023 is something we can all aspire to – but exactly how to achieve this goal is not always easy to determine. That’s where we at Scerbo come in. At Scerbo Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, our physical therapists are trained to help our patients take the appropriate steps to improve health, prevent or recover from injury, and enhance athletic performance. We are here to help you set realistic goals – and to meet or exceed them.Improving Your Health
Our basic recommendation for healthier living in 2023 has not changed over the years: get regular physical activity. Regular physical activity reduces stress and improves your overall health and well-being. It can help you to:

• Improve energy level.
• Boost your mood and reduce episodes of depression and anxiety.
• Maintain strength and flexibility.
• Aid in weight control.
• Reduce your risk for chronic conditions such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.
• Decrease joint and soft tissue stiffness and prevent some causes of pain.

However, many people find it difficult to work regular activities into a busy life schedule. Getting more active shouldn’t feel like a chore. We can help you make an individual exercise plan you can stick with in the long run to improve and maintain your health.

Preventing Injury
At Scerbo, we provide post-injury recovery and rehabilitation, but we are also specialists in helping you avoid injury in the first place. Too often, people set unrealistic expectations for exercise routines and sport performance goals and may try to achieve too much, too fast for muscles and bones to adapt. Athletes and non-athletes alike may not be aware of problems with balance or biomechanics in the way you exercise or play a sport, leading to harmful stress on muscles and joints.

Our physical therapists perform a detailed assessment, static and dynamic, to measure balance, angles of movement, and muscular strength and weakness, to help identify and strengthen injury-prone areas.

Improving your Game
Athletes engaged in all levels of sport will benefit from an assessment and training program directed by a Scerbo-certified personal trainer. Services include Performance Enhancement Training, Sports Injury Risk & Concussion Management, Titleist Performance Assessment Program, Balance Assessment & Conditioning, and more.

Currently, our certified personal trainers are:

Dr. Michael Pomykala, PT, DPT is a certified personal trainer through the American Aerobic Association International and International Sports Medicine Association and a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Instructor.

Dr. Frankie Goris PT, DPT is a certified personal trainer through the American Aerobic Association International and International Sports Medicine Association.

Angel Montanez, ATC, LAT, PES is a certified performance enhancement specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Hazel Luque, PTA is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and earned a specialization in Corrective Exercise (CES)

We will help you set appropriate goals for improved health and performance and then meet and maintain them throughout the new year. Call us for an appointment, or stop by to see our state-of-the-art facility in Edgewater, NJ.
