    What Our Patients Say

    Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during my first visit?

Your first session with your physical therapist is called an initial examination. During this session, your physical therapist will spend one-on-one time with you to learn about your condition, your previous level of function, and how your current condition is affecting your everyday life. After collecting your subjective report, your therapist will take specific measurements of the impairments that may be contributing to your problem. By combining your subjective report with our objective measures, we will develop a personalized treatment plan.

    What will I need?

Make sure you bring your physical therapy referral (provided to you by your doctor) and your payment information. If your insurance is covering the cost of physical therapy, bring your insurance card. If you are covered by Workers’ Compensation, bring your claim number and your case manager’s contact information. If you are covered by auto insurance or an attorney lien, make sure you bring this information.

How long will each treatment last?

Treatment sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes per visit.

How many visits will I need?

This is highly variable. You may need one visit or you may need months of care. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis and when you see your doctor, we will provide you with a progress report with our recommendations.

What type of treatments will I receive?

Physical Therapy treatment plans vary individually. There are several types of treatments that physical therapists can offer based on an individual’s needs and health condition. The most common treatment options include the following: Stretching, Strength training, Transcutaneous electrical neuromuscular stimulation (TENS), Temperature therapy (Heat/Cold), Joint mobilization, Laser therapy, and Massage.

Do you need a prescription for physical therapy?

In New Jersey, patients are able to be evaluated and treated by a licensed physical therapist without a physician’s referral, called Direct Access. Our physical therapists can treat acute or chronic conditions, under Direct Access, we have the authorization to treat you for up to 30 days.
