National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

By Dr. Adrian Lorenzo, PT, DPT ///

Posted on May 1, 2024

Scerbo PT recognizes May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. It’s a nationwide initiative organized by the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition every year since 1983. People are encouraged to engage in physical activity, promote healthy lifestyles, and celebrate the benefits of being active. It’s a great opportunity to try out new sports, exercises, or activities and to raise awareness about the importance of staying physically fit.

Staying active isn’t just about looking good; it offers a plethora of benefits for people of all ages. Regular exercise strengthens the body, improves mental well-being, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases. The council aims to dispel myths and misconceptions about fitness during this month. They emphasize that fitness isn’t about achieving a certain physique or performing complicated exercises. We at Scerbo PT could not agree more with national incentives for May.

The key to a healthy lifestyle is consistency, regardless of the intensity of the workout. The council provides a wealth of resources online, including tips on exercise and nutrition. These resources cater to everyone, from parents looking for ways to get their kids moving to senior citizens and postpartum women seeking safe and effective exercise routines.

Schools can also participate in May by promoting healthy breakfast programs. After all, a nutritious breakfast provides the fuel our bodies and minds need to thrive throughout the day. The council also spearheads various campaigns on social media and other platforms to spread awareness about the importance of physical activity.

ScerboPT prides itself on being the go to place for Sport Rehabilitation.
